The timekeeper’s job is to time all of the speeches throughout the meeting (including functionary roles), indicate to the speakers using the lightbox/coloured cards as to how their time is going and report to the audience on the timing of each speaker.
Key Skills: Listening, Time Management
Top Tips:
- Show your enthusiasm for the role by personalising your introduction at the beginning of the meeting.
- If you are using cards to show times, make sure they are visible throughout the relevant period, not just flashed at the start.
- Giving a recap of the names and topics during the table topics timing report is helpful for the audience voting.
- At St Paul’s Speakers we prefer not to use the gavel if the speaker goes over-time, but instead give them a friendly clap off. If you start clapping when the time is up, the audience will join you.
